The Ontario Pharmacists Association has been working closely with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to enable pharmacists to administer additional vaccines beyond influenza and effective December 15, 2016, pharmacists, students, and interns trained to administer injections will be able to vaccinate patients to protect against 13 preventable diseases.
This is an exciting opportunity for pharmacists in Ontario to leverage their skills, training and knowledge to improve patient access to care and drive vaccination rates for preventable diseases.
To help with this expanded scope of practice, OPA has developed the following tools and resources. These tools are meant to assist members in implementing a vaccination program in their pharmacies and include a list of eligible vaccines and their prescription status and patient screening and consent forms. We welcome your feedback and suggestions and will continue to develop additional tools and keep members posted as they become available.
