Patients often seek advice from healthcare professionals to help guide them through menopause. This online program helps to support pharmacists with providing information and care to patients undergoing this significant life stage. Participants will gain a refresher on the common issues and an overview of the physiological changes. The final case-based module will provide further guidance on how to apply the information presented in the first two modules.
Learning objectives:
Module 1: Introduction
- Explain menopause stages and terminology
- Identify and interpret patient’s menopausal signs and symptoms
- Recognize symptoms and rule out other conditions which can cause similar symptoms and identify cases when a physician referral is necessary
Module 2: Treatments:
- Describe the indications, benefits, risks ADRs, and contraindications of menopause hormone therapy (MHT)
- Recall MHT formulations available in Canada
- Identify bioidentical therapies
- Understand available treatments hormonal and non-hormonal, Rx and non-Rx with respect to efficacy, safety, and indications for use
Module 3: Applying Knowledge in Practice
- Assess patients with menopausal symptoms
- Educate patients on the use of non-pharmacological and non-pharmacological, prescription and non-prescription approaches for the management of genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM)
- Discuss goals of menopause therapy including preferences and expectations
