Pneumococcal disease continues to affect patients across Canada with varying levels of severity, from invasive diseases to community-acquired pneumonia. Staying informed on the latest developments in disease burden and vaccination options is crucial for providing optimal care.

This webinar will provide pharmacists with the knowledge and tools to better understand the current landscape of pneumococcal disease in Canada. By the end of this program, pharmacists will be able to describe changes in the disease burden over time, identify key serotypes implicated in both invasive disease and pneumonia, and distinguish between the vaccine options available in Canada, including their types and included serotypes. Furthermore, participants will enhance their skills in engaging patients in shared decision-making, helping them navigate vaccine choices that align with their preferences and government coverage options. Join us for this webinar to learn the most recent information and ensure your patients receive the best care possible.

By the end of this program, pharmacists should be better able to:

  • Describe changes in pneumococcal disease burden over time in Canada, including serotypes implicated in invasive disease and community-acquired pneumonia
  • Distinguish vaccine options available in Canada by type and included serotypes
  • Engage in shared decision-making with a patient to determine the vaccine option that is best for them considering patient preferences and current government coverage
