The program has obtained The Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP) competency-mapped accreditation, which addresses the 15 competencies for pharmacist injection education, as approved by the OCP Board:
  • 14 immunization competencies for health professionals approved by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
  • 1 competency (Essential Competencies for the Injection of Other Substances) approved by CCCEP

In-person live session:

This mandatory in-person live session is for the practical exam portion of the course. The sessions will be held primarily in Toronto and more dates will be added throughout the year, usually 1 to 3 months in advance. When you sign up for the course, you will be able to register for your preferred session from the options below:

During the in-person session, each participant will attend the practical exam as supervised by a registered nurse or pharmacist. You will be partnered with another participant for this session. The instructor will observe you demonstrating both intramuscular and subcutaneous injections on your partner and your partner will, in turn, demonstrate on your arm. Please be prepared by wearing appropriate attire to receive these injections in the upper portion of your arm.

  • Practicing techniques
  • Practical exam (demonstration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injections on a partner)

Cancellation Policy:

You can cancel the course without penalty if you cancel within 24 hours of your registration and if you have not accessed the online modules within those 24 hours. After this point, there is a $250 + HST cancellation fee.

  • Completion requirement: Complete the program’s online component. Attend the in-person live session and successfully demonstrate the skills required to administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. Achieve 70% or more on the final multiple-choice exam (maximum two attempts) and complete the reflective exercise and evaluations before course expiry date.

Who should take this course:

The Injections and Immunizations Certificate Program is a comprehensive two-part series designed to support pharmacists in the provision of injections for the purposes of education, demonstration, and immunization.

This blended program consists of in-person live and online components that will prepare pharmacists to administer flu injections through the Universal Influenza Immunization Program (UIIP), as well as to add other injection and immunization services as per current regulations and existing standards of practice.

CPR and First Aid training are not required before taking the Injections and Immunizations Certificate Program; however, you will require valid certification in CPR and First Aid (the equivalent of the Red Cross Standard First Aid with CPR “C” + AED Course level) in order to register your injection training with OCP.
