OnPharm-United and MAPflow have announced they are partnering to simplify workflows and support pharmacists with the new minor ailments scope expansion in Ontario.
OnPharm-United is a network of independent pharmacy owners dedicated to providing members with the ability to maintain their independent status while benefiting from a suite of innovative programs, services, and resources. MAPflow will be available to more than 600 pharmacies within the OnPharm-United network.
This exciting partnership supports pharmacists, who, as of January 1, 2023, can assess and prescribe for thirteen minor health ailments – conditions patients can manage through self-care strategies and minimal treatment. The ailments are typically short-term, meaning lab results aren’t usually required, and they have a low risk of treatment masking underlying conditions.
The recently expanded scope for pharmacists is notable and valuable because it offers patients additional care pathways, enhances access to healthcare within the community and reduces emergency and urgent care visits.
“We applaud the government for recognizing the role that pharmacists play in keeping Ontarians safe and healthy by expanding our scope to assess and prescribe for 13 of the most common ailments,” notes Sherif Guorgui, co-CEO and Chief Strategy Officer, OnPharm-United. “We are very excited to offer MAPflow to our growing network of pharmacies across the province. MAPflow helps to streamline minor ailments assessment and follow-up and supports pharmacists in providing the highest level of care to patients in their communities.”
Pharmacists often are patients’ first, most frequent contact point with the healthcare system. Pharmacy professionals manage confidential information to meet strict privacy, security, and governance requirements. As pharmacy professionals increasingly create capacity in the Ontario healthcare system, new, customized digital health tools like MAPflow foster innovation and agility.
“We are thrilled to partner with OnPharm-United to offer their pharmacists our comprehensive and state-of-the-art MAPflow software,” says Dr. Nardine Nakhla, PharmD, MAPflow CEO. “Facilitating minor ailment assessment and prescribing services allows pharmacists to practice at the top of their license.” To learn about MAPflow and purchase a subscription, visit mapflow.ca.
