In 2016, following an increasing number of Long-term Care Homes Act regulatory provisions being issued in non-compliance as part of the Long-Term Care Homes Quality Inspection Program (LQIP), the Ontario Pharmacists Association’s Long-Term Care Working Group developed best practice guidelines in consultation with LQIP staff to assist both long-term care homes and pharmacies in obtaining and maintaining compliance with the drug and pharmacy-related regulatory requirements. The information in the document is provided to enhance pharmacists’ understanding of the inspection process and legislative requirements and to provide recommended options/best practice guidelines for compliance.
To continue to reflect evolving best practices, OPA with the support of its Long-Term Care Working Group and Long-Term Care Task Force have made updates to the best practice guidelines which are current as of November 23, 2021 (please refer to the guidance document for a complete list of changes reflected in this update).
