The Bowl of Hygeia Award 2021 is provided to a pharmacist on the basis of providing outstanding service to the community.
Antony is the epitome of dedication and a provider of optimal, patient-centered pharmaceutical care. With over 35 years of experience, his work involves implementing medical directives for diabetes care and immunizations, and mentoring and training pharmacy students. Antony has over 10 years of volunteer experience with the World University Services of Canada (WUSC) and has taken relief trips to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Malawi, Africa.
Antony is recognized for his many acts of service. During the pandemic he went the extra mile, delivering insulin supplies and nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to patient’s homes so they could decrease their risk of COVID exposure. Additionally, Antony is an Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University and has been published in major peer-reviewed academic journals including Pharmacotherapy, Bone Marrow Transplantation, and the Canadian Journal of Diabetes.
Antony has been a Certified Diabetes Educator since 2005. Under his leadership, the diabetes program of the Hamilton Family Health Team was the recipient of the 2010 Pharmacy Practice’s Commitment to Care Award – Best Collaborative Team in Canada. In addition to his work in healthcare, Antony is a co-founder of Malacana Limited, a Hospital Information Management software company in Malawi and he has developed several websites and computer applications including tools to help manage clinical encounters in Electronic Medical Records. As a member of the Pharmacy Council, he was able to witness the implementation of the MedsCheck program in Ontario. Antony has been working as the Manager of the Pharmacy Program at the Hamilton Family Health Team since the start of the program in 2006. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Montreal and a post-graduate Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Buffalo.
