Ontario’s Pharmaceutical Opinion Program (POP) provides a formalized structure for pharmacists to identify drug related problems and make recommendations to prescribers.

The objectives of POP as outlined by the Ministry of Health include achieving better patient outcomes, optimizing drug therapy, ensuring appropriate use of benefits, and reducing inappropriate drug use.

Many pharmacists may experience challenges implementing this program due to limitations such as time, uncertainty about eligibility criteria, or barriers in collaboration with prescribers.

This course will share insights and practical strategies for pharmacists and their teams to overcome these challenges and maximize the implementation of POP into their practice. In addition, common examples found in daily practice will be discussed.
