Description

Description:

By funding pharmacists delivering professional services to patients, the Ontario government acknowledges the role pharmacists play in providing care to patients. Pharmacists are positioned as key advisors who can help and support patients on their journey to quit smoking.

This online professional development course provides an overview of concepts and best practice approaches currently used in the management of smoking cessation by healthcare professionals.

It also provides practical information on how to set up and run a smoking cessation clinic, acting as a guide for pharmacists who want to get started. Through this program, pharmacists will be able to provide one on one support, advice, and follow-up counselling to patients who want to quit smoking.

Pharmacists wishing to provide smoking cessation support to Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) patients under the Ministry of Health’s pharmacy-based smoking cessation program are required to complete a smoking cessation training program in order to be eligible to receive funding for their expertise and professional services in this area. For more information, please visit the Professional Pharmacy Services section of the Ministry’s website.

By completing modules 1, 2 and 3, pharmacists will meet the training requirements of the Ministry of Health’s pharmacy-based smoking cessation program to provide smoking cessation support to Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) patients in order to receive funding for their expertise and professional services in this area.
